This month's Glitter for Good feature is near and dear to Amour Absolu designer Kathryn Giarratano. Having a loved one in the hospital can be incredibly draining on both emotions and finances for families. It is doubly difficult when it is your child who is unwell. For 36 years, the Ronald McDonald House of Denver has supported families of sick and injured children giving them a home away from home to stay close by while their child is in the hospital.
"My entire line grew from my role as a mother to my two daughters - caring for them, loving them, protecting them. My Shield Collection is the most literal representation of that mission. Shields offer strength. They provide protection. They define bravery and heroism. These are the exact reasons I've chosen this beautiful pair of earrings to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Denver. Having volunteered there, I’ve seen first-hand the strength it takes to care for a sick child. A portion of every purchase of these earrings through Metalmark Fine Jewelry will be helping a child, a family and a mother in need – the meaning behind the line itself."
With a main focus to provide comfortable, low-cost housing to out-of-town mothers and fathers needing to be near their hospitalized children, the Ronald McDonald House of Denver also provides family facilities within local hospitals, awards college scholarships to high school seniors, community grants, and hosts a summer camp for kids with cancer and their siblings.

I am so excited to feature my good friend and Amour Absolu designer, Kathryn Giarratano, on Metalmark Fine Jewelry this month. Each piece in her collection tells a story. I am particularly inspired by her most recent XO Collection and we are lucky to have a few pieces available now... just in time for Valentines Day!
This month we feature up and coming designer Bridget Walsh of Belle & Bone. We love her classically cool pieces and cannot wait to see her collection grow. We are sure you will love her line as well.
I MAKE JEWELRY BECAUSE… I love fashion, styling and design…and I like a creative challenge. Jewelry happens to be a really fun blend of all those things.
THE MOST FABULOUS PIECE I HAVE MADE RECENTLY IS… I really love the rose cut champagne diamond pear studs. But I’m sure I’ll have a new favorite if you ask me again next week.
I AM INSPIRED BY… Everything! Mostly fashion, travel, art, my friends…I think inspiration comes when you least expect it. I carry a little notebook with me just in case something strikes me.
WHEN I AM NOT MAKING JEWELRY I… enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog, Georgie, traveling, cooking, exploring Colorado skiing & hiking, seeing live music with friends.
A CAUSE THAT I CARE DEEPLY ABOUT IS… Cancer research, treatment, support and assistance for families. I lost my dad to cancer at a young age and know that it’s something that affects so many families.
There’s a great organization in Denver called First Descents that gives young adult cancer fighters and survivors a free outdoor adventure experience designed to empower them to climb, paddle and surf beyond their diagnosis.SHOP BELLE & BONE NOW!
This month's Glitter For Good feature is the Friends of Holiday Park. We are happy to support the Friends of Holliday Park because its a great cause, but also because it speaks to one of our very own designers, Samantha Louise.
"Giving back is an important part of my identity and my business. The park is a place that I hope to watch my great grand children play at. They have some amazing things in store for the future and I am happy that my jewelry can make a small difference in their efforts to improve, educate, and impact the lives of the families who come to enjoy it."
-Samantha Louise Larkins
The park was an important part of her childhood and continues to be a venue for kids to learn about nature.
Friends of Holliday Park (FHP) is an independent 501(c)3 charitable organization that works in partnership with Indy Parks and Recreation to improve Holliday Park in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Holliday Park is a free public park that encompasses 94 wooded acres containing 3.5 miles of hiking trails, natural springs, wetlands and an approachable stretch of the White River.
It boasts an exceptional Nature Center, a large popular playground, an arboretum, picnic area and is home to the iconic Ruins which is currently being revitalized by FHP and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2016.
We asked Samantha to "Finish this thought".
I MAKE JEWELRY BECAUSE…
I love the process of making something from nothing. Creating the design, sourcing the stones, and all the steps that go into building a piece of jewelry is fascinating and challenging. Hopefully the end product is something that brings happiness, inspires individuality, and becomes intertwined in a person's story.
THE MOST FABULOUS PIECE I HAVE MADE RECENTLY IS….
Okay, I didn't make it recently, but one of my all time favorite designs is this large moonstone and diamond enhancer. The way the moonstone catches your eye from behind the diamonds is amazing. Shop for it here. Purchasing this piece would make a giant contribution to the Friends of Holliday Park this month.
I AM INSPIRED BY…
Women. As women we juggle a million balls, businesses, jobs, kids, families, etc. I am inspired and driven to make jewelry that not only reflects who they are but makes them feel like a rock star while they are conquering life.
WHEN I AM NOT MAKING JEWELRY I AM…
I am chasing kids. Three of them and it's a work out.
