This Glitter for Good feature is near and dear to Amour Absolu designer Kathryn Giarratano. Having a loved one in the hospital can be incredibly draining on both emotions and finances for families. It is doubly difficult when it is your child who is unwell. For 36 years, the Ronald McDonald House of Denver has supported families of sick and injured children giving them a home away from home to stay close by while their child is in the hospital.
"My entire line grew from my role as a mother to my two daughters - caring for them, loving them, protecting them. My Shield Collection is perhaps the most literal representation of that mission. Shields offer strength. They provide protection. They define bravery and heroism. These are the exact reasons I've chosen this beautiful pair of earrings to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Denver. Having volunteered at The Ronald McDonald house myself, I’ve seen first-hand the strength it takes to care for a sick child. A portion of every purchase of these earrings through The Metalmark House will be helping a child, a family and a mother in need – which is, after all, the meaning behind the line itself."
With a main focus to provide comfortable, low-cost housing to out-of-town mothers and fathers needing to be near their hospitalized children, the Ronald McDonald House of Denver also provides family facilities within local hospitals, awards college scholarships to high school seniors, community grants, and hosts a summer camp for kids with cancer and their siblings.
